Why Polar Bears, you might ask?
As go the polar bears, so goes the world. At least that’s one possibility climate scientists are pondering. That’s a scary thought considering things are looking pretty dire for the polar bears. Global climate change is causing the Arctic ice to disappear beneath their feet. That loss of habitat is threatening the very survival of the species and led the polar bear to be listed on the federal Endangered Species Act in 2008. But there are some signs for optimism. Thanks in part to their memorable role in the 2006 documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” polar bears are having a moment in the spotlight, and one things is clear: awareness = hope. With enough funding and support, polar bear experts might find a way to save the polar bear and reverse climate change.
That’s why Art Supporting Animals is so determined to do whatever we can to help. Ten percent of every custom yoga mat we sell will go to support the conservation efforts of Polar Bears International. The organization is especially meaningful to us because of their remarkable new educational partnership called Arctic Ambassadors. The venture is spearheaded by the world renowned San Diego Zoo, which just happens to be located in our own backyard! We’re so lucky to be based here in San Diego, to have access to the zoo, the Pacific Ocean and more top-notch yoga studios than we can count.
